What Are the Different Types of Content?

There are hundreds of different types of digital content. Essentially, content is everything you could include on your website, such as pages of copy, blogs, photos, surveys, articles, et cetera. For law firms, some of the most common forms might also include case studies, testimonials, and a page dedicated to yourself and your accomplishments, where you detail what sets you apart from your competition. You could even record videos where you answer frequently asked questions.

Is a Certain Type of Content More Effective Than Others?

Text is typically the most used form of content on legal websites. This is broken down even further into different types of information. For example, a slip-and-fall lawyer could discuss the big picture by answering questions like, “How much does a lawyer cost for a slip-and-fall case?” Alternatively, they could also hone in on more specific details such as “slip and fall accidents that occur on government-owned property.” Content can take many forms, but the most important thing to remember is that the more, the better.

Videos are also powerful forms of content. People typically pick up information more efficiently by watching a video than by reading a bunch of text because the latter is more work for the brain.  Because of this, some people say that videos are more effective. Regardless of the type, having content that is aesthetically pleasing does make a significant difference.

Different Content for Different Goals

Additionally, different forms of content are better for different things. Videos keep people engaged and on the site for at least the duration of the clip, whereas with text, they might get bored and click somewhere else. However, having text is good because Google can read the text of their website a lot easier than going through video.

Ultimately, what matters is finding the most effective way to get someone to click and contact your office specifically. Some people succeed with just text, and some achieve more with videos. The type of content you produce will depend on what you like creating as well as your marketing strategy and analytics.

Finding Inspiration for Content

You can often get inspiration from your competitors, whether it is ideas for what to include on your site or things you want to steer away from. However, it is important to remember that while it is ok to look to your competitor for suggestions on writing or video topics, you still want the information to be as different and unique as it can be.

Regardless of the type of content you create, you want to distinguish yourself as having the most helpful information rather than details that are recycled across multiple websites. Write with your own voice and better than your competitor and provide additional value that people might like, such as saying things in a funny way or finding something that readers can relate to.

You can also get ideas from talking to and empathizing with your clients. Think about the most common questions, your client’s needs, and what they are most worried about.
